Like virtually all websites, ours also uses some cookies. Cookies are small text files that the sites you visit (as well as other sites or web servers) send and record on your computer (or mobile device). These files are then retransmitted to the same sites (or web servers) upon your next visit, thus sending information.
Cookies are now fundamental tools as they allow modern websites to function at their best, enabling maximum customisation, interaction, and fluidity in navigation. But they can also be used to monitor user browsing and then send advertising messages in line with that.
Cookies can be:

  • session (if they expire when the browser is closed) or permanent (they remain until the expiration of a period, even years);
  • first-party or third-party (in the latter case they are set by a site or web server other than the one the user is visiting at that time);
  • technical (necessary, sometimes indispensable, for a complete – or better – use of the site) or profiling (aimed at creating a user profile, to then send them advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same during previous browsing).

The Italian Data Protection Authority considers session cookies, functional cookies, and—only under certain conditions—analytics cookies to be technical cookies. Specifically, in its provision of May 8, 2014, the Authority specified that the latter can be considered technical cookies only if used for website optimization purposes directly by the website owner, who may collect aggregate information on the number of users and how they visit the website.
For more information on the types of cookies, their characteristics, and how they work, please visit the websites http://www.allaboutcookies.org, www.youronlinechoices.com, http://cookiepedia.co.uk, and the specific Provision of the Guarantor mentioned above.
